Book Tittle: The Musical Human: A history of life on earth.

Why I read this book?

I asked a good friend for a book recommendation, if I remember correctly I asked because I was interested in reading something different to my usual reads.

What I thought about the book?

It took me a while to finish this one—my Amazon history shows I bought it in June 2023. I started reading, but it felt dense and I couldn’t engage with it. I only completed it out of a sense of duty, which isn’t how books should be enjoyed.

Given the amount of time (on and off) that I spent reading it’s hard to recall much. I do recall a story about NASA sending a golden record into space for aliens to experience human music, that was certainly fascinating. Coincidently, one of the songs in the golden record was Johnny B. Goode, a song that I had recently become acquainted with.

Flipping through the book I realise I should probably re-read it, and make some notes. I learned of several songs and genres I was not familiar with.

A quote or two

“To listen to music is to surf between memories, moments and anticipations, between past, present and future.”
